REPORT: Thieves Are Using Key Fobs To Steal Cars In Philly Area

A warning has been issues in Montgomery County about a rise in car theft. The Conshohocken Police Department is now telling the public that this is a real problem.

The police department said that the thieves are targeting newer cars with the push to start feature. The car make that has been stolen the most were newer models of Hondas. Police told citizens that the thieves are using the signals of the car key fob to get access in the car.

The nearby police stations are now giving out steering wheel locks to people for extra protection.

The police department is asking people to lock their cars, know where their key fobs are, and invest in an anti-theft device, such as a Faraday box. They said that the box will block the radio frequency used by your keys to communicate with your car. Police said that it’s possible for thieves to capture these signals from the inside of your home.
