The Sixers have secured their centerpiece of their franchise for years to come. According to ESPN, Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers have agreed to a three-year, $192.9 million maximum contract extension that guarantees the former MVP a total of $299.5 million through the 2028-29 season.

The news broke from the big man himself as he took to social media to celebrate his contract extension with a heartfelt sentiments.

“Philadelphia is home. I want to be here for the rest of my career,” Embiid wrote on Instagram. “I love this community and everything you’ve given me and my family. There is a lot more work to do. You guys deserve a championship and I think we’re just getting started!”

 

Fans can hopefully feel relieved after those words, as we know Joel can be a troll. Around this time last year Embiid hinted at the possibility of entering a new chapter in the NBA with another team.

Hopefully with the Sixers move recent offseason moves with signing NBA stars  Paul George, Andre Drummond, and extending key pieces in the sixers roster such as Tyrese Maxey, and Kelly Oubre Jr., Embiid is able to combine these two quotes he’s given us to ultimately win a chmapionship and Philly, and remain here for the rest of his career.
