The Shapiro Administration recently announced that is will be allocating $79.4 million in grants to support 307 projects throughout the Philadelphia area. This ambitious new initiative will be aimed at enhancing recreational opportunities, conserving natural landscapes, and revitalizing communities across Pennsylvania.

The Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) plays a pivotal role in this initiative, with Secretary Cindy Adams Dunn underscoring the environmental and social benefits of the projects. Dunn announced a $500,000 grant to the School District of Philadelphia during a visit to James Logan Elementary School in Philadelphia earlier in the year. This funding will contribute to the plant preservation within the city and engage communities in planting approximately 600 trees across 30 school campuses,

Governor Josh Shapiro spoke on doing everything in his power to consistently improve the Keystone state. Shapiro has made much emphasis on improving the ‘quality of life’ in the city of brotherly love and sisterly affection, while weeding what doesn’t work in the Quaker state.

“Every day, my Administration is focused on getting stuff done for the good people of Pennsylvania — and we’re proud to support hundreds of projects across the Commonwealth that not only enhance the quality of life for Pennsylvanians but also serve as a catalyst for economic growth.”

Some key projects in Philadelphia include:

  • $428,000 for the development of the Tacony Boat Launch along the Northern Delaware River.
  • $500,000 for the restoration of the Schuylkill River along the Schuylkill River Trail.
  • $1 million to the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society for urban and community forestry efforts in the city.

With CSNR funding reaching 57 of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties, this comprehensive funding effort is expected to invigorate local economies, promote environmental stewardship, and improve the quality of life for residents throughout the Commonwealth.
