As we celebrate the 46th birthday of the late R&B artist Aaliyah, the rumors of her having her own Barbie doll become true.
Last month, the first look at Mattel’s Aaliyah doll hit the web and fans were excited. At the time, the photos showed a close-ups of the dolls face. Now, more images have surfaced the internet showing the clothing and other features of this doll. Mattel has not made any official announcements has been made.
The doll was made available at MattelCreations.com starting at midnight but was sold out within 30 minutes. It retailed for $64.99, which also included 1-year membership to Barbie Club 59, which allows members access to exclusive deals.
You might still be able to find the dolls at select Target locations and on Target’s website, according to the Mattel website. There are dozens listed for sale on eBay and they are currently selling for around $100.
The doll comes dressed in a sleek black outfit with low-slung pants and a pair of sunglasses. “Our Aaliyah doll honors the life and sound of the chart-topping, record-breaking American musicians affectionately known as Babygirl,” the dolls website reads.
Other singers who have their own signature Barbies include Mariah Carey, Gloria Estefan and Stevie Nicks.
