No survivors expected after air ambulance crashes in Philadelphia

A medical jet crashed into a Philadelphia neighborhood shortly after takeoff Friday evening, killing everyone on board as well as a person inside a vehicle and injuring at least 22 others.

The aircraft was transporting a child who had just completed treatment for a life-threatening condition, her mother and four other passengers,  to Springfield-Branson National Airport in Springfield, Missouri. From there it would have traveled to Tijuana, Mexico, for its final destination.

The plane crashed 30 seconds after takeoff from Northeast Philadelphia airport, which primarily serves business jets and charter flights.

Jet Rescue Air Ambulance, which operated the Learjet 55, initially said in a statement on Friday: “We cannot confirm any survivors.” During a Saturday morning press conference,

A spokesperson for Jet Rescue Air Ambulance released the names of the following individuals, all of whom were Mexican citizens, that were flying on the plane before it went down near Roosevelt Boulevard and Cottman Avenue.

  • Dr. Raul Meza Arredondo
  • Paramedic Rodrigo Lopez Padilla
  • Valentina Guzman Murillo
  • Lizeth Murillo Ozuna

Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo, The president of Mexico, took to X to share her condolences with those affected by the tragedy.

She says in a post on X, “I regret the death of six Mexicans in the plane crash in philadelphia. The consular authorities are in permanent contact with the families. I have asked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to support them in whatever way is required. My solidarity with their loved ones and friends.”

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) said the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will lead the investigation. NTSB investigators arrived in the area on Saturday.

Also, Parker said there would be no school closures on Monday, Feb. 3, 2025 due to the crash.
