A Philadelphia photographer is under fire after falsely reporting the death of a beloved public figure in the city.
Sam Aziz, better known by his social media alias ‘South Street Sam’, took to social media on April 1st to falsely report the death of rapper Omelly.
The post saw a picture of Omelly with the caption reading “What’s up my boy? RIP OMELLY 💔🪦🕊️”
Omelly took to social to quiet the concern from his fans, friends, and family.
“Ain’t nothing wrong wit me man, I’m here man” Omelly stated. “I don’t know what’s up with dude he outta pocket…. that’s the end of the road for Sam, I’m down wit ’em”. https://www.instagram.com/p/DH62pn3S3Jz/
South Street Sam later took to his Instagram to post a public apology to Omelly and his family, ensuring them that is was just a ‘April fools prank’. “It was a mistake. No harm was intended, I didn’t mean to scare anybody, being a content creator is difficult” Aziz said. “I just wanted to apologize to Omelly personally and the Philly community.”
Aziz tuned his comments off on his apology post, but that did not stop users from sharing their opinions on the ‘worst prank in April’s fools history’.
“Idk how you joke about another mans life. The fact that he posted that without getting the green light from Omelly is insane.” @eddienchooch215 commented on a post. “Imagine all the texts and phone calls he got from friends and family. People lose their life every day in this city so the post was believable.”
Other users just cut Aziz off, short, and simple.
“We don’t even play that sam” @wellknownhustlers commented.
“Sam…ya done. 😂” @therealmonamood commented.
There has been no official word that Aziz and Omelly have exchanged words since the April fools post, but if we’re going off of what Omelly said, Aziz may not ever have the opportunity to personally apologize.
